Praying for Michigan in 2009

In 2009 the Baptist State Convention will be focusing on prayer. It will be churches, associations, families and individuals praying all through 2009.

Why pray? Of course there are many Scripture passages that stress the need and importance of prayer.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33) “…but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6)
…(God) answered their prayers, because they trusted in Him.” (1 Chronicles 5:20b)

Why this focus on prayer now?
Michigan is in great need of prayer.

·
  • We have over eight million lost people.
  • Our baptisms are in decline.
  • We have churches that are declining and some close to death.
  • We as a Convention have been at the level of 300 churches and missions for many years.
  • We need many new church plants.
  • We have pastors and their families who need prayer and encouragement.
  • Our families and marriages need prayer.
  • We need to pray for our city and state governments and leaders.
  • We need to pray for the many ministries of our churches.
  • Our economy is struggling, people have lost jobs and many have lost their homes. Pray.

Michigan and our churches are in a position of need where God can do a great work. We need to pray and see what God can and will do!

How does this work? Individuals, churches and associations pray through 2009 to see God work.
  • You will receive a monthly prayer guide, with room to add your own prayer concerns from the State Convention to guide your prayer times.
  • You are invited to email your prayer concerns and prayer praises to sera@bscm.org so we can share them in a “Prayer Gram” with all the churches.
  • You are encouraged to have prayer walks, studies on prayer, prayer revivals, prayer chains, prayer partners and anything else you desire that will encourage you and others to pray in 2009.
