Constitution & Bylaws
Proposed Revision of the Constitution and Bylaws
In our upcoming annual meeting on November 6, 2020, the Executive Committee and Board will be presenting amendments to our current constitution and bylaws and will be voted on by the messengers at the meeting. Please note the following information that will help you understand the process:
According to our current constitution, any proposed amendments to our constitution are required to be submitted to the Executive Committee and Executive Board for approval. After that, the proposed amendments must be submitted to the churches six months before our annual meeting. This year, the deadline for changes to the constitution is May 6. At the annual meeting, it will require a 2/3 vote for approval of the proposed amendments made to the constitution.
According to our current bylaws, any proposed amendments to our bylaws must be submitted to the Executive Committee and Executive Board 90 days before the annual meeting for approval. After that, the proposed amendments can be considered at the annual meeting (there is no requirement to submit proposed amendments to the bylaws to the churches in advance, such as amendments to the constitution). However, we are presenting the proposed amendments at this time as well to give you an opportunity for review before the meeting itself. At the annual meeting, it will require a simple majority for approval of the proposed amendments made to the bylaws.
Please review the following documents to help you understand the “why” and the “what” of our current proposal. If you have any questions, you can email the BSCM President, Scott Blanchard, or the First Vice-President (and chairman of the Constitution and Bylaws Revision Committee), Roy Henry.
